As of July 15th 2015, a new management plan for aquatic invasive species (AIS) has been approved in New York State.  This plan, which updates the Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Comprehensive Management Plan of 1993, provides a new framework within which the state and its partners can address threats posed by AIS.

Highlights include expanding the reach of boat launch steward programs and the use of AIS disposal stations at waterway access points, developing a response framework to inform and improve communication of decision-making, and assessing risks associated with pathways of AIS introduction and movement. The plan also calls for a statewide AIS public awareness campaign and lays the groundwork for establishing regional “first responder” AIS teams across the state.

The press release and plan can be found on the NYS DEC website.
