SUMMARY:Implications of Climate Change for Invasive Species in the Northeast
DESCRIPTION:An overview of how climate change may influence the spread of invasive plants and animals that threaten northeastern ecosystems. Register here. \nWill climate change create conditions that let invasive species thrive? On October 21 at 7PM EDT\, Carrie Brown-Lima\, Director of the NY State Invasive Species Research Institute at Cornell University\, will provide insight on how climate change may influence the spread of invasive plants and animals that threaten northeastern ecosystems. Special attention will be given to management implications. \nInvasive species have pronounced negative impacts on ecosystems and economies\, and these impacts may be exacerbated by climate change. This presentation will review the current state of knowledge about how climate change influences invasive species. Brown-Lima will also describe the work of the Northeast Regional Invasive Species and Climate Change network that is bringing together researchers and practitioners to address this challenge. \nIn her role as Director of the NY State Invasive Species Research Institute\, Carrie Brown-Lima works closely with research scientists\, state and federal agencies\, the NY Invasive Species Council and Advisory Committee\, and regional stakeholders to promote innovation and improve the scientific basis of invasive species management.\nShe has over 20 years of experience working with natural resource conservation and management across ecosystems and borders. Prior to her position with the Research Institute\, Carrie spent 11 years promoting conservation strategies and partnerships in Brazil and throughout Latin America; this work included sustainable fisheries certifications\, agriculture and conservation\, and transboundary protected areas. \nThis event will include time for audience Q&A. Free and open to all\, registration is required to access the Zoom link. \n— \nThis event was sponsored in part by Sherret E. Chase\, Associate RE Broker with Select Sotheby’s. \nThis event is part of the Catskill Science Collaborative’s efforts to share science with the community. SUMMARY:104th Ecological Society of America Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Conference theme: Bridging communities and ecosystems: Inclusion as an ecological imperative \nThe community of people engaged in the science of ecology is transforming\, bringing important new perspectives into the field. Inclusive approaches to ecology can build bridges between theory and practice\, connect those working in disparate landscapes and subdisciplines\, and incorporate diverse perspectives. Such approaches support ecologists and the ecological community as a whole as they articulate socio-environmental connections\, address widespread ecosystem change\, take advantage of technological advancements that provide unprecedented access to data and new analytical techniques\, and engage in interdisciplinary collaborations.

SUMMARY:4th Annual Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) Native Plant Symposium
DESCRIPTION:From the event website: \nAs our natural resources and native habitats dwindle\, and the last of our available open spaces become developed\, it is incumbent upon landowners\, businesses\, municipalities\, and the public to collectively provide both the stewardship and the habitat that local native fauna require to improve biodiversity\, support local wildlife populations\, and keep the native ecosystems upon which we depend healthy and thriving. The production and incorporation of ecotypic (genetically) native plants into our regional landscape requires dedication to this progressive effort and many partners.  The 4th LINPI Native Plant Symposium\, “Flora for Fauna” brings together top plant\, restoration\, and wildlife professionals to share their vision\, leadership and expertise at this one day educational event\, to encourage the use and stimulate a commercial supply of ecotypic flora for the benefit of regional fauna.
