NEW! Great Lakes Restoration Initiative
On November 23, 2009, the US EPA announced the release of a request for proposals (RFP) under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The RFP
invites partner Agencies, stakeholders, non-governmental
organizations, and other eligible organizations working on Great Lakes
restoration to present EPA with ideas and projects to protect and
restore this national treasure. EPA, through the Great Lakes National
Program Office is seeking applications from a diverse group of
participants and partnerships to support the goals of the Great Lakes
Restoration Initiative. The RFP requests proposals for approximately $120 million in projects to
address the most significant Great Lakes ecosystem problems and efforts
in five major focus areas, including invasive species. The RFP is available online
and proposals are due January 29, 2010.
Recent Calls for Proposals
New! New York Water Resources Institute State Competitive Research Grants Program (FY10)Announcement. The primary objective of this program is to bring
innovative science to watershed planning and management. Specific areas of interest include: 1) Research that addresses key knowledge gaps or
issues of emerging importance to New York’s water resources; 2) Projects that integrate scientific, legal, planning
and/or social expertise to build comprehensive strategies for watershed management; and 3) Novel outreach methods that enhance the
communication and impact of science-based innovation. Proposals must be submitted by faculty having
an affiliation with a university or college based in New York and qualified to conduct research,through their institution's grant application
process.Total available funding is about $90,000. Projects may request up to $20,000. About half of the funds are from the Federal Water Resources
Research Act administered by the US Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, and the remainder are from the Hudson River Estuary

New! Northeastern IPM Center (NEIPMC) IPM Partnership Grants Program
Request for
Applications. Projects funded through the IPM Partnership
Grants must further the mission of the Northeastern IPM Center, must address or identify regional IPM
priorities, and must benefit the region at large. The IPM Partnership Grants Program seeks applications for
five project types: (1) IPM Working Groups, (2) IPM Issues, (3) Regional IPM Publications, (4) IPM Planning
and Assessment Documents, and (5) IPM Minigrants. Eligibility is open to individuals and groups both within
and outside of the land-grant system, including private individuals and institutions, businesses, community
organizations, and governmental and nongovernmental organizations. The primary project director must be from
the northeastern region. A maximum of $40,000 will be awarded per regular proposal project and $8,000 for minigrant projects.
The NEIPMC focuses the expertise needed to successfully address emerging IPM issues (e.g., pest resistance, invasive species,
regulatory changes, water quality, and biotechnology) and improve regional access to information and technology in all settings
(agricultural, urban, home, and community). They are enthusiastic about alternative, nonpesticidal strategies that unite several
disciplines and lead to sustainable solutions. Deadline: December 14, 2009
2009 Great Lakes Protection Fund Small Grants Program
Call for Proposals. This
small grants program provides seed funding for new, cooperative approaches to
projects with potential to improve the understanding and/or management of New
York's Great Lakes basin. The program supports collaborative projects and grant
awards can be used for preliminary research, project planning, as seed money for
pilot projects that will lead to larger projects, or to support small-scale
projects consistent with the objectives below. They particularly encourage
projects supporting students working with local government and community
